This free, family-friendly collaboration between Common Grain Alliance and Friends of Peirce Mill celebrates the Mid-Atlantic region’s vibrant history of local grain growing, milling, and baking. There will be grain cooking demonstrations and tastings, live milling demonstrations at Peirce Mill, and a farmers’ market with regional grain fare, along with music, arts, and crafts, hands-on activities, and more. see more details below! Saturday, October 19, 2024 EAIA (Early American Industries Association) Regional Meeting The Clarke County Historical Association and the Newtown History Center are collaborating to present this event at the History Center in Stephens City and the Burwell Morgan Mill in Millwood, VA. The meeting will begin at 10:00 am with a presentation by EAIA member Byron Smith on the wagons used to transport freight and goods in the Shenandoah Valley with an emphasis on the wagons used in the transportation of corn, wheat, and flour to and from mills. Then, participants will drive to the Burwell Morgan Mill in Millwood and enjoy a box lunch. After lunch, the water-powered mill will operate and the miller will demonstrate the grinding of corn into flour, meal, and grits. Fee: $7 for admission, box lunch price to be determined (Both payable at the door)
